With people talking about likes, pins, tweets and digs, social media sounds like a daunting and cluttered space. It certainly can be, especially if your brand or business is joing the for the sake of being there. Social media is nothing more than a conversation and if done right can have amazaing results.
The Conversation
Like any conversation you would want to have with your clients or potential clients, there has to be some interest. If your business sells chocolates then you would be hard pressed to have a conversation with some one who doesn't like it beyond, "yuck!". Take that a step further and you are not likely to join a special interest club (read: social network) entitled, "Vanilla Lovers of the World"!
The first step in deciding whether social media fits into your business at all is to listen. Start in a few (not all) social networks and see where there is a relevant conversation going on that you can join in on that is related to your brand product or servce. Building relationships and trust will ultimately turn to championing current clients to be your evangialists and enticing new ones to see what you can do. The goal is to become top-of-mind to them in the network you share so they go forth and share to their networks, building the buzz.
In social media, conversation means conversation - not preaching or broadcasting endlessly about your brand like traditional advertising. Listen first and respond effectively and timley to what is being said or asked. Social media participatin is all about engaging influencers and bringing awareness to the point where they are comfortable and know you as a solution to a problem someone else in their network may be having. Likes are nice, but its about building a positive brand experience within the social media framework that ultimately can convert to sales.
Coaching
Building a profile up through social media take a lot of time and energy. The worst thing that can be done is to join every feasible network and become overburdened in keeping up with them along with everything else your job demands. It worse to create spaces and start conversations in dozens of places to then become overwhelmed and simply fading to black then not being there in the first place.
Falcon Innovation Group offers social media setup and coaching for its clients who are interested in starting conversations with their current and projected client base. There are many useful opportunities for social media to play a part in your marketing mix, however they must be accounted for in your Marketing Action Plan (MAP) and further developed through a Social Action Plan (SAP).
Once the network(s) that you feel house the appropriate conversations have been identified, our team can help you design a professional looking presence to these venues. Whether it is creating a Facebook Fan Page, Linked-In business page or skinning Twitter to reflect your brand strategy, we can help.
